From the Desk of Pastor Horsley...
2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the
world, and not after Christ. 9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. 10 And ye are complete in him, which
is the head of all principality and power:
9 of this passage outlines the great truth of Christ. Verse 10 tells of who we are in Him. The second truth is not possible
without the first truth. If Jesus Christ is not the fullness of the Godhead bodily than we could not be complete in Him. Since
God is the fullness of all things than we have the possibility of having a different life in Jesus Christ.
Men constantly look
for things we can substitute for Christ to make us better. We are proud of ourselves when we can say that we are striving
because it has the potential to show some measure of success in us. To understand that we are now complete in Jesus Christ
leaves nothing for us to do and thus takes all the glory from us and gives it to Him. It leaves us helpless and totally dependant
on His finished work rather than on our incomplete work of the flesh that is the enemy of God's grace.
Today we want to
allow Holy Sprit to teach us what we are and what we have rather than trying to reproduce through our own efforts what He
has done. We must flee from idolatry to Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take
heed lest he fall. 13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer
you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear
it. 14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.
